Bromophenyl Methyl Tellurium2 To a suspension of 1.27 g (10 mmol) tellurium in 60 ml tetrahydrofuran are added 11 mmol methyl lithium in diethyl ether at 20 during 10 min. Then 1 ml propanone is added to destroy the excess methyl lithium. 1.09 g (1.27 ml, 10 mmol) chloro trimethyl silane arc then added in one portion. After 10 min all volatile materials are eliminated at reduced pressure. The solid residue is dissolved in 120 ml acetonitrile. After addition of 50 mg 18-crown-6 and 3.49 g (10 mmol) 4-methylbenzencsulfonyl-azo-4-bromobenzenc, the mixture is stirred at 20° for 8 h. The mixture is then poured into 300 ml water and extracted with three 100-w/ portions of diethyl ether. The combined extracts are dried with anhydrous magnesium sulfate, the dried mixture is filtered, and the solvent evaporated from the filtrate under reduced pressure. The residue is chromatographed with chloroform/benzene (15 85) as the mobile phase yield 36%. [Pg.415]
