In addition to the dissociation of the homo- and hetero-complexes containing the same anions the following isomolecular reaction for the formation of a bromoiodide has been investigated [466] ... [Pg.180]

To prepare a film one allows a solution of the sample to evaporate slowly on the face of a suitable window material. The plate may be gradually heated if necessary. For many compounds this means dissolution in a volatile organic solvent, and an alkali halide plate is used. Films of such substances as proteins and mucopolysaccharides have frequently been cast from aqueous solution on a silver chloride plate. IRTRAN-2 (ZnS) and KRS-5 (thallium bromoiodide) plates can also be used. [Pg.45]

Many types of cells are available from manufacturers for use with liquids. Various window materials are available (NaCl, KBr, CsBr, AgCl, CaFz, BaFz, IRTRAN-2, thallium bromoiodide, etc.) m both the demountable and the sealed cells. For these cells there are available spacers of various thicknesses of lead. Teflon, polyethylene, etc. Since the fixed-thickness sealed cells often contain lead spacers cemented to the windows by a mercury amalgam (and these metals are biological poisons) it is wise to consider whether the use of such cells is advisable in a particular instance (e.g., an aqueous enzymic system in one such cell). Cells are available for semimicro, micro, and ultramicro work. Variable path cells of the micrometer or wedge type are available, and these are particularly useful for solvent compensation. [Pg.52]

The most useful crystals for ATR work are thallium bromoiodide (KRS-5), silver chloride, zinc sulfide (IRTRAN-2), and germanium, in decreasing order of usefulness. A variety of instrumentation and ATR accessories are available from Wilks Scientific Corporation, Perkin-Elmer Corporation, Barnes Engineering Company, and Harrick Scientific Corporation. [Pg.71]

INTRODUCTION This data sheet describes the properties of mixed crystal thallium bromoiodide (KRS-5). ... [Pg.90]

A similar double substitution in a single pot was employed for thioether formation in the RBR-based synthesis of eremantholide A (see Section 8.6.41. " In this case, the sulfide generated from hexamethyldisilathiane [bis(trimethylsilyl)sulfide] and sodium methoxide reacted with the bromoiodide 16 to form the 10-membered thioether 17 (Scheme 8.6). This was oxidized with Oxone to provide the sulfone 18. [Pg.293]
