Bromination addition product

Bromination of hexahelicene in CQ4 leads to two bromine addition products 107 and 108. Differently from 9,10-dibromo-, 9,10-dihydrophenanthrene, which eliminates HBr in boiling CCI4, 107 and 108 eliminate HBr only at higher temperatures (boiling toluene) leaving 5-bromo- and 5,12-dibromohexahelicene, respectively. Heating 107 or 108 in pyridine or triethylamine results in loss of bromine hexahelicene is recovered almost quantitatively. [Pg.121]

Brominated Vegetable Oil occurs as a pale yellow to dark brown, viscous, oily liquid. It is a bromine addition product of vegetable oil or oils. It is soluble in chloroform, in ether, in hexane, and in fixed oils, and is insoluble in water. [Pg.53]

Hexa-hydro Benzene.—Similar to the bromine addition product is the hydrogen addition product. Six hydrogen atoms can be added to benzene, but only six as in the case of bromine. [Pg.468]

For addition of bromine a gaseous unsaturated hydrocarbon can be led into cooled bromine that is the process for, e.g., synthesis of 1,2-dibromoethane in the laboratory33 and the preparation of butadiene tetrabromide.34 Usually, however, a solution of bromine in a suitable solvent (see page 104) is dropped into one of the olefin in the same solvent, with stirring and ice-cooling, until the bromine is no longer decolorized. Sensitive unsaturated compounds are preferably treated with the bromine addition product of a tertiary amine hydrobromide or of dioxane (see pages 112, 113). [Pg.108]

The ester V combines with bromine and is therefore unsaturated it may also be converted by adds or bases into the monophenyl ester of the ketophosphinic acid. The ring is more stable in the case of the ester than the acid chloride, and the position of the double bond may be shown by transforming the bromine addition product into a monophenyl ester of the /5-bromoketophosphimc acid (VI) ... [Pg.128]

In contrast to the results for l-phenylprop)me, 3-hexyne (61) formed only the E bromine addition product (62) in acetic acid. The reaction appears to occur through the intermediacy of a bromonium ion (equation 9.62) in the... [Pg.610]

Amination and hydrolysis of a-bromo-j8-methoxy acids. The lattn are prepared from the methanol and basic mercuric acetate or the bromine addition products of unsaturated monocarboxylic acids. [Pg.296]

In connection with the identification of unsaturated hydrocarbons, valuable data are furnished by titration with bromine the bromine addition products may often be used for melting-point or boiling-point determinations. Among the terpenes, the addition products formed with bromine, halogen acid (usually HCb, and nitrosylchloride are of considerable value. The latter derivatives react with organic amines to yield nitrosylamines. (Cf. Rosenthaler, pages 22-28.)... [Pg.163]
