Broglie and the Wave Nature of Matter

In 1924, Louis Victor de Broglie (1892-1987) was a graduate student in physics in Paris.

Since the mid-1920s, scientists have believed that both matter and light possess a dual nature—they both behave as particles and as waves. 

The 1929 Nobel Prize in physics went to de Broglie for his discovery of the wave nature of matter, a discovery that set the stage for the next development in physics—the quantum mechanical model of the atom. Dying at the age of ninety-four in 1987, de Broglie lived a long and productive life.
