More than Ten Ways to Increase Your Score on an Organic Chemistry Exam [Pg.343]

When you re doing your problem sets or practice tests, work them twice. [Pg.344]

The first time you may have to refer to your notes or book. Make sure you understand and master the material that gave you trouble. Then work the problems again, but the second time try not to use your notes, and work them in a random order. Sometimes the context of the material gives you clues that may not be present on an excim, so you don t want to rely on them. Working problems in a random order is an especially powerful study habit when gearing up for the final exam. [Pg.344]

Students were allowed to ask questions only with modesty and without bothering the teacher. ... [Pg.74]

At every stage, we must learn to ask plenty of questions. Because if we don t have answers to all of them, or haven t even bothered to asked, how would we ever know they were the right ones anyway Here is a likely list (see Figure 8-1). [Pg.177]

I preface my lectures on quality assurance in the chemical laboratory by asking the rhetorical question, why bother with quality The answer is because it costs a lot to get it wrong. There are many examples of failures in chemical analysis that have led to great material loss, but as a first example here is a success story. [Pg.6]

There is an important question that must be asked when approaching any difficult project for the first time, and that question is, "Why bother "... [Pg.374]

The nothing refuses to speak up when upset. Nothings become withdrawn. Try to guess at what is bothering them by asking them open-ended questions. [Pg.132]

We have emphasized the drive to make penicillin analogues with varying acyl side-chains. No doubt, the question could be asked—why bother Is penicillin not good enough Furthermore, what is so special about the acyl side-chain Could changes not be made elsewhere in the molecule as well ... [Pg.169]

You have already seen that atoms of different elements react together to form compounds. The forces that hold these atoms together in compounds are called chemical bonds. In order to understand the nature of these bonds, perhaps we should first ask the question Why do atoms bother to combine in the first place ... [Pg.46]

AS a wise chemist once said, There is an important question that must be asked when approaching any difficult project for the first time, and that question is. Why bother Consequently before writing this history of chemistry, we had to ask ourselves, with so many excellent histories already available, why should we write one more ... [Pg.482]

The first question one might legitimately ask is why bother . Why should one check the dead time of the apparatus, what bearing has it on the interpretation of subsequent experimental results The dead time is defined as the time required for the reactants, once mixed, to travel fiom the mixing chamber to the observation chamber. It is, therefore, a period of time in which the reaction is progressing, but not being recorded. This being so, it must follow that the... [Pg.214]

As a general rule, I try not to get involved in these kinds of questions. It is a sign that the questioner is not experienced with plastic material selection. As a consultant, and someone engaged in new business development, you might ask. How could you pass up a new client opportunity The truth of the matter is, working with clients like this is often more of a bother than it is worth. And sometimes the questions they ask make you shake your head. [Pg.155]
