Boron binding strength

The binding strength of common boronic acids toward ris-diol-contain-ing compounds is relatively weak, with dissociation constants (fif d) between boronic acids and sugars or glycoproteins ranging from 10 to 10 ... 

Thus, capture of czs-diol-containing biomolecules, especially glycoproteins, of very low concentration by conventional boronate affinity materials is rather difficult or impossible. Therefore, it is essential to develop novel boronic acids ligands or boronate affinity materials that can significantly improve the binding strength.

The nonmetals (Table 2.5) that have been studied are remarkably uniform in their inability to bind positrons, and their ability to bind positronium (boron is an exception-it apparently does not bind positronium). There is a strong correlation between the Ps-atom and H-atom bond strengths for these atoms, and this correlation extends to almost all examples of positronium binding shown in this chapter.
