Borderline personality disorders types

In pharmacological treatment, because of the considerations discussed above there is often the conclusion that substitute prescribing produces the best results in opiate addicts with the added condition of personality disorder, particularly of the antisocial or borderline type. There should also be awareness of treatments which, although not specific for personality disorder, have some demonstrated utility in the condition alongside psychological therapies, including serotonergic antidepressants and low-dose antipsychotics (Markovitz 2004). 

Psychiatric comorbidity includes depression (np to 80%), impulse-control problems, and substance abnse. Approximately 30% to 37% of bulimic patients have a personal history of snbstance abuse. Kleptomania is reported more commonly in patients with BN than in the general pnbhc. Patients commonly steal comfort items snch as laxatives, candies, and clothes. Personality disorders, especially borderline and avoidant types, are more common in these patients than in the general population. ... 

DSM-IV presents but one version of borderline disorder (a type of histrionic-dependent borderline). Speaking more broadly in this book, we will refer to borderline disorders as including a host of personality "styles" that share the common core features listed above. In addition, it is helpful to delineate three subgroups of borderlines. These subgroups have been derived both by research methods (cluster and factor analysis) and by a method that psychopharmacologist Donald Klein calls "pharmacological behavioral dissection." This latter approach looks at how different groups of patients respond to psychotropic medications based on their response patterns, subtypes can be identified.
