Boranes equilibrium with diboranes

The reaction is called hydroboration and is a versatile synthesis of organoboron compounds. One example is the addition of diborane, B2H6, to ethene. Di-borane behaves as though it is in equilibrium with BH3 (B2H6 <= 2BH3), and addition proceeds in three stages ... [Pg.420]

Diborane (B2H6) is a dimer composed of two molecules of borane (BH3). The bonding in diborane is unconventional, using three-centered (banana-shaped) bonds with protons in the middle of them. Diborane is in equilibrium with a small amount of borane (BH3), a strong Lewis acid with only six valence electrons. [Pg.344]

Borane (BH3) exists in equilibrium with its dimer, diborane, which exhibits three-center, two-electron bonds. [Pg.445]

Nonbonded complexes. The equilibrium constants, enthalpies, and entropies for the weak complexation of pyrazine with dichloromethane, chloroform, or carbon tetrachloride have been determined from changes in the n — 77 absorptions of solutions at various concentrations (in cyclohexane) and temperatures 568 similar data for pyrazine-aromatic hydrocarbon complexes were obtained from variations in the H NMR chemical shift values.1037 The spectral effects of complexation with borane have been studied in the pyrazine diborane adduct and its methyl derivatives.254... [Pg.77]

Coordinative adducts of lower stability are formed by nontransition elements or by transition elements with empty reacts with CO at 90°C, equilibrium is rapidly attained and borane carbonyl is formed. ... [Pg.461]

In contrast to trialkylboranes BR3, the mono- and dialkylboranes R2BH and RBH2 are dimers with structures related to diborane(6) i.e., they are alkyldiboranes. With a few exceptions (borolane dimers and 9-borabicyclo[3.3.1]nonane dimer) they may also be in equilibrium at room temperature with small amounts of monomer. Characteristically there is rapid R/H exchange. Hence alkyldiboranes are in most cases mixtures of boranes in various degrees of alkylation. Tetraalkyldiboranes are therefore mixtures of alkyldiboranes and trialkylboranes, and the mixtures have mean compositions corresponding to a tetraalkylated diborane ... [Pg.141]

Tetraethyldiborane (14.3% hydridic H) and ethylated diboranes with similar hydridic H content are clear, colorless, mobile, spontaneously flammable liquids with very unpleasant odor. ( Toxic l) They consist of an equilibrium mixture of more highly ethylated boranes and diborane(6). Infrared absorption bands of the BH2B bridge at 1567 cm.-1 and the BH or BH2 stretching at 2500 and 2570 cm.-1 are spectroscopically characteristic and well suited for rapid identification. The characteristic B—H stretching band (2500 cm.-1) of the dihydroborane constituent disappears only after addition of 6 moles of triethylborane per mole of tetraethyldiborane. ... [Pg.145]
