Alite and belite percentages determined by microscopy are generally higjier and lower, respectively, than the values calculated by the Bogue equations. Major errors in microscopical percentages of matrix phases are mainly due to small crystal sizes. 

Ono (1995) presented a series of correction factors in the calculation of phase percentages by the Bogue equations. The factors involve minor components,solid solution of CjS and C S, solid solution of C A F-C AF, and glass. Taylor (1990) also provided formulas for correcting the Bogue calculations. 

Qualitative and semiquantitative analysis of mineral phases and the estimation of glass contents are carried out by XRD. The mineralogical composition of ordinary Portland cement can also be estimated from the oxide analysis by the Bogue equation (ASTM C 150 (1986)). In addition, optical microscopy on polished sections has been very successfully employed over the years both to estimate the phases present and to provide insight into such things as kiln burning conditions.

It should be noted that in the limit of n = 1, equation (3.58) also reduces to equation (3.51) with A = 2.47 and B = 5.7 the slight discrepancy in the values of the constants arises from the fact that experimental g — (—Ap) data have been used to obtain the values of the constants rather than velocity measurements. Other techniques of determining the extensional properties of polymer melts include constant-force experiments,74) such as the weight dropping extensiometer of Takaki and Bogue<73) wherein sample rods are extended isothermally at constant force. The major advantages here are that large extensions can be obtained and the mode of sample failure can be studied. Strain-time data are obtained, and these can be analyzed with the help of constitutive equations, much in the same way as with fiber-spinning data.
