BODIPY dyes functionalization

Numerous 8-substituted BODIPY dyes (te., ones with substituents in the meso position) have been built via condensation of activated carbonyl compounds with readily available pyrroles, especially staring from aldehyde derivatives. Various aldehydes can be utilized to synthesize meso-substituted BODIPYs for adjusting the nature of substituents at the meso position, resulting in a convenient method to achieve more sophisticated functionalities for specialized purposes. In fact, there are many interesting chemical probes based on the synthetic method, which continues to be the most popular route to functionalized BODIPY dyes. ... [Pg.204]

Boradiazaindacene (BODlPY)-based fluorescence probes have been used for detecting Cd " in cells (Figure 3). The optical properties of BODIPY can be tuned by chemical modifications on the dye core. BODIPY dyes undergo an ICT process with a functional group at the 3 -position whereas the substituents at the meso position can alter the efficiency of the PET process [58]. [Pg.108]

For all the cell internalization assays, PRPs have to be labeled with a fluorescent dye as a tracer. One such dye, BODIPY, functionalized with the... [Pg.169]

The time-resolved monitoring and evaluation of the autocorrelation function of the emission intensity fluctuations yield information on the diffusion rate of fluorescent species. However, the experimental measurement is affected by a number of parasite side effects. First, the intensity of the focused beam is very high, which promotes photobleaching (mainly the transition to the triplet state). Hence, only a few very stable and resistant fluorophores (rhodamine dyes or BODIPY) can be employed and still an appropriate correction has to be used when evaluating the diffusion coefficients. Second, the multiple labeling of particles of finite size can generate additional problems. We will focus on some of these complications in Sects. 3.5 and 4.3. [Pg.206]

An epoch-making discovery in heterofulvene chemistry was the metallic conductivity in the charge-transfer complex formed from tetrathiafulvalene (TTF) 24 and tetracyanoquinodimethane (TCNQ) 25 in 1973 [12]. Upon this discovery, various functional dyes have been designed and constructed on the basis of electronic character of TTF however, this chapter only describes the functional dyes involving a fulvene moiety, because TTF chemistry is considerably larger (see Chapter 8) and many good books and reviews have already been published to date [13]. For the same reason, this chapter does not refer to the chemistry of porphyrins 26 and boron dipyrromethenes (BODIPY) 27, although they formally possess azafulvene moieties in their n-systems [14, 15]. [Pg.148]
