Blending quality

For the blend uniformity application, the primary concern is overall heterogeneity within the sample. This is directly indicated by the width of the distribution and is quantitatively measured as the percent standard deviation relative to the mean (%SD). The %SD value obtained from the PLS scores distribution from each of the six imaged tablets is noted on the histograms in Figure 8.15(A-F). The value of %STD consistently decreases as the blending quality of the sample improves.

Sampling is an important part of estimates of blending quality. In most cases, scientists do not have mixing problems, but actually have sampling problems.8 Ideally, a powder for testing should be sampled when it is in motion and the whole of the stream of powder should be taken for many short increments of time instead of... 

Durene Formation - An aromatic compound, durene (1, 2, 4, 5-tetramethylbenzene) is produced in the MTG process. Durene has excellent research octane blending quality (110 RON clear) and boils within the gasoline distillation range (197°C) however, its freezing point is relatively high at 79°C.
