Bipyridine phenanthroline

In terms of chelating systems, nitrogen and oxygen donors (bipyridine, phenanthroline, crown ethers, etc.) have also been attached to polymer supports (364), as well as chelating phosphorus donors (see Section IV,B). 

Like ruthenium, amines coordinated to osmium in higher oxidation states such as Os(IV) are readily deprotonated, as in [Os(en) (NHCH2CH2NH2)]2+ [111614-75-6]. This complex is subject to oxidative dehydrogenation to form an imine complex (105). An unusual Os(IV) hydride, [OsH2(en)J2+ [57345-94-5] has been isolated and characterized. The complexes of aromatic heterocyclic amines such as pyridine, bipyridine, phenanthroline, and terpyridine are similar to those of ruthenium. Examples include [Os(bipy )3 ]2+ [23648-06-8], [Os(bipy)2acac] [47691-08-7],... 

Niobium and tantalum halides also fonn adducts with numerous N-donors. Their reactions with pyridine and related ligands (bipyridine, phenanthroline, 7-azaindole ) depend critically on the reaction conditions. Indeed, aromatic amines have a tendency to reduce the metal to oxidation state IV especially for niobium but the reduction can be prevented, even at rt, by an appropriate choice of the solvent (equations 2a-c). Imide adducts M(NR)Cl3L2 are obtained with primary or secondary amines. ...

The ligands discussed above are widely diversified certain of them can only serve as monodentate (imidazole, acetonitrile and isothiocyanate), bidentate (bipyridine, phenanthroline) or terdentate (terpyridine, TPTZ), others being the polyfunctional ligands with different donor sites may coordiate to the metal in various modes. In the latter case, the formation of chelate metallo-rings and/or the linking of the adjacent An coordination polyhedra is observed.
