Bioconcentration of lipophilic organic contaminants may be influenced by physicochemical properties, such as molecular configuration or steric properties that influence biotransformation and membrane transfer kinetics, and biological factors, such as the partitioning between storage lipids and structural lipids 17. 

For the sake of fairness, it must also be mentioned that the design of soft drugs is not without limitations. Whereas emphasis is placed on the predictability of their metabolism, this predictability is qualitative more than quantitative as a result of the many biological factors that influence their biotransformation. A similar limitation also applies to many prodrugs, as discussed in the following sections.
