Transfer systems, binuclear charge

Recently, the formation of a dinuclear Eu(II) complex at a toluene/water interface was measured by time-resolved total-reflection fluorometry. When bathophenanthroline sulfate (bps) was added to the extraction system of Eu(III) with 2-thenoyltrifuluoroace-tone (Htta), a double-component luminescence decay profile was observed and it showed the presence of a binuclear complex at the interface [16]. The observed lifetimes t = 22/rs and 203 /rs were attributed to the binuclear complex Eu2(tta)2(bps)2 and the mononuclear complex Eu(tta)2bps. A lifetime of the binuclear complex shorter than t = 98 /rs for an aqua-Eu(III) ion suggested charge-transfer deactivation in the complex. [Pg.58]

Unless noted otherwise we use the term electron transfer generally to denote both electron (ET) and hole (HT) transfer. The charge-localized initial and final states are denoted generically as DBA and D" BA to reflect the fact that in typical situations it is convenient to represent the donor/acceptor (D/A) interaction as being mediated by an intervening bridge (B) or spacer. For intramolecular ET, e.g., as in binuclear TMCs, the entire DBA assembly is a bonded molecular system. In cases of bimolecular ET between TMCs it may be useful to view the M ions as the local D and A sites, with the L in direct contact serving collectively as the B. ... [Pg.574]
