The same directional changes in either CO stretching frequencies or core electron binding energies were observed when sulfur was chemisorbed on the platinum-rhenium catalyst. The effect of the sulfur was studied because it is commonly added to catalysts of this type in reforming practice, as will be pointed out in Chapter 5. It was concluded that the chemisorbed sulfur atoms are present on surface rhenium atoms, and that the latter remain bonded to platinum atoms in the surface region. [Pg.124]
