Binary alcohol

The first kind are the alcohol/water mixtures. These mixtures are highly nonideal with strong intermolecular interactions, including H-bonds between the components. Thirty-three binary alcohol—water VLE sets for methanol (MeOH), ethanol (EtOH), 1-propanol (1-PrOH), and f-butanol (f-BuOH) were employed. The information about the alcohol/water mixtures used in calculations is listed in Table 1. 

Two parallel paths have been identified in the reduction of monochloro- and dichloro-acetic acids by uranium(iii). The reactions have been studied in various binary alcohol-water mixtures as well as in aqueous media. Under the latter conditions the rate may be described by...

If too much water were added we should have, as an intermediate fraction, the binary alcohol-water mixture which boils at 89 8°, and contains 66 8 per cent, of the alcohol. 

Not only can we remove the last traces of water from the nearly pure alcohol by means of benzene but it is also possible to obtain the pure alcohol from the binary alcohol-water mixture. 

In this case, again, the boiling point of the binary alcohol-water mixture is so slightly lower than that of pure alcohol that the reading of the thermometer— unless very accurate —would hardly be sufficient to distinguish with certainty between the two.
