Logic bimodal

Finally, while geometry was axiomatized with bimodal logic, chemistry required creation of a new (within last few decades) branch of logic rich enough in expressive power to manipulate uncertain statements without over or understating their value. The next section introduces these new logics. 

This bimodal logic could be avoided by considering only three states (Scheme 3.2). Note that the interaction RR(SS) vs. RS(SR) being diastereomeric, the difference in energy could be very weak, but never null. It is easier to discuss the problem by means of Scheme 3.1, but when discussing the sign, we will consider only the situations where the effects are large.

In general, the accessibility of functional sites is determined by the relationship between the dimensions of the pores and of solute molecules. When adverse outcomes have been traced back to then-underlying causes, it is assumed that the components that are part of the explanations either have functioned correctly or have failed. This principle of bimodality represents the commonly held assumption that things function until they fail. Whenever an individual component fails, such as a light bulb that bums out, the component will be discarded and replaced by a new (and usually identical) component. The same reasoning applies to composite systems although failures sometimes may be intermittent, especially if complicated logic (software) plays a part.
