Bhesa

A chemotaxonomic study of the pyrrolizidine alkaloids present in the subfamilies Heliotropioideae and Boraginoideae has been carried out, using t.l.c.19 No alkaloids were identified. Lycopsamine (41) and 9-angelylretronecine have been isolated from Messerschmidia sibirica.20 9-Angelylretronecine has only been found previously in Bhesa archboldiana (Celastraceae).21 Heliotrine A-oxide is present in Heliotropium ramosissimum.22 A full paper describing the alkaloids identified in H. curassavicum... [Pg.61]

The calicanthine-type alkaloids as represented by calicanthine, the isomeric chimonanthine (70) and the dehydro derivative isocalycanthine (71) have been previously known from various genera of the Celastraceae, including Bhesa. The bark extract of the Malaysian species, Bhesa paniculala provided two new members of this group which are related to the previously known isocalycanthine (71) [64], viz., bhesine (72) and dehydrobhesine (73), bhesine being the yV-8a dehydro derivative of isocalycanthine. The structure and relative configuration of bhesine were established by X-ray diffraction analysis [65]. [Pg.335]

Bhesa archboldiana (Merr. Perry) Ding Hou Busu R, PNG L, B s [19, 20]... [Pg.23]

The major alkaloid of the bark of Bhesa archboldiana (Merr. and Perry) Ding Hou (Kurrimia archboldiana Merr. and Perry), a large rainforest tree indigenous to New Guinea, is 9-angeloylretronecine N-oxide (14),11 a previously unrecorded alkaloid the parent tertiary base also appears to be present. [Pg.61]

Calycanthine co-occurs68 with pyrrolizidine alkaloids in Bhesa archboldiana. The absorption and c.d. spectra of calycanthine and caracurine II have been extended69 to 53 000 cm-1 theoretical curves match the experimental ones moderately well. [Pg.238]
