Between Surface Dynamic Stability and Barrier Characteristics

CORRELATION BETWEEN SURFACE DYNAMIC STABILITY AND BARRIER CHARACTERISTICS 

The ease with which moieties rearrange themselves toward the inner bulk phase (F containing) or the outer top layer (O containing) when such a surface is immersed in water can be expressed by the ratio of (F/C ratio of water immersed sample)/(F/C ratio of dry sample) and (O/C ratio of water immersed sample)/(0/C ratio of dry sample). If no rearrangement occurs, the ratio is unity, and if all moieties migrate beyond the detection depth of XPS, the ratio is zero.
