The pump types covered by this standard can be broadly classified as overhimg, between bearings, and vertically suspended (see Figure 1-1). To aid the use of this standard, Sections 2, 3, 4, and 6 cover requirements that are applicable to two or more of these broad classifications. Section 5 is divided into 3 subsections and covers requirements unique to each of the broad classifications. Figure 1-2 shows the various specific pump types within each broad classification and lists the identification assigned to each specific type. [Pg.11]

Unless otherwise specified, except for volute sump pumps (Type VS4), the first stage impeller shall be located between bearings. [Pg.62]

Thermal isolation between the pump and motor housings will reduce motor winding temperature but increase the forward bearing temperature in excess of 140°C, which is detrimental to the bearing lube. [Pg.506]

For some pump, pump shaft is supported at both ends by bearings wi the impeller in the middle. This impeller is between bearing impeller. Most multi-stage pumps use between bearing impelIm. [Pg.19]

Pumps are designed to give trouble-free operation for a long period of time. The ANSI B73.1M pumps are designed for a bearing life of no less than two years (29), and API 610 pumps for a minimum of five years (30). However, in real appHcations, a typical mean time between faUures (MTBF) is often found to be significantly less, and sometimes it is as short as a few weeks. Whereas in some instaUations the seals last from three to four years, in others these are replaced monthly. The reason for such wide variations in pump component life is often not poor pump design but equipment misappHcation. [Pg.300]

To correct this condition with an opened impeller, it s nece,s,sary to perform an impeller adjustment to correct the strict tolerance between the blades and the volute. Some back pullout pumps arc designed with jack bolts on the power end of the bearing housing to easily perform this adjustment without pump disassembly. [Pg.32]

We say that the motor generates horsepower (HP), and that the pump consumes brake horsepower (BHp). The difference between HP (output) and BHp (input) is what is lost in the power transmission the bearings, shaft, and coupling between the motor and the pump. [Pg.45]

In this group the impeller or impellers are mounted onto the shaft with the bearings on both ends. The impellers are mounted between the bearings. These types of pumps are further divided into single stage (one impeller) or multi-stage pumps (multiple impellers). [Pg.57]
