Bethlehem Steel Company

At the Paris World Fair, the Bethlehem Steel Company presented the first high speed steel (HSS) cutting tools. For several decades after that, steel was the most prominent timgsten consumer. [Pg.79]

At Midvale Steel he developed and used his ideas and worked his way up into senior management. He was then invited to go to the much larger Bethlehem Steel Company and to help reorganize its management and methods. Bethlehem Steel was controlled by distant financiers rather than by locally based families, and it probably hired T aylor partly because of his engineering abilities and partly as a publicity stunt to make the company look go-ahead. He was appointed with nominally sweeping powers, but treated like an employee. In spite of some spectacular achievements he was sacked in 1901 with a one-sentence letter. [Pg.129]

Litol Also called Houdry-Litol. A process for making benzene by dealkylating other aromatic hydrocarbons. It is a complex process which achieves desulfurization, removal of paraffins and naphthenes, and saturation of unsaturated compounds, in addition to dealkylation. The catalyst contains cobalt and molybdenum. Developed by the Houdiy Process and Chemical Company and Bethlehem Steel Corporation. First installed by the Bethlehem Steel Corporation in 1964. Subsequently used at British Steel s benzole refinery, Teesside, England. [Pg.165]

Sulfiban A process for removing hydrogen sulfide from coke-oven gases by scrubbing with monoethanolamine. Developed by the Bethlehem Steel Corporation and B. S. B. Process Systems and tested in a demonstration plant of the former company in the mid 1970s. Not commercialized. [Pg.258]
