Beryllium isotope ratios

Activation with 14 MeV neutrons has been used to determine the oxygen content of various metals such as beryllium 20>, Cl, F, O, Na, Si, and various rare earths in complex molten salt electrolytes 45>, the protein content of food products by means of the nitrogen content 46>, i60/180 and 14N/15N isotopic ratios in stable isotope tracer experiments 47,48), and in a wide variety of other applications. One application we... [Pg.64]

Because beryllium has only a single stable isotope, there normally exist no isotopic ratios to measure, so that one can not speak of isotopic anomalies for Be. There is... [Pg.46]

Another short-lived isotope of beryllium, 7Be, decays to 7Li by electron capture with a half-life of —53 days. This half-life is so short that any atoms present in chondrite components must have been produced in the solar system essentially immediately before the host object formed. A hint of the presence of 7Be in the form of large excesses of 7Li in an Allende CAI was presented by Chaussidon et al. (2006). However, these authors were not able to demonstrate a tight correlation with the 9Bc/ Li ratio. [Pg.296]

Consider an infinite reactor composed of a uniform mixture of beryllium and natural uranium. The atomic ratio of isotopes in natural uranium is U U 993 7. Assume that the one-velocity model applies, and use the microscopic cross sections and densities of Table 2.2. [Pg.68]
