Bernhard Katz

Dramatic progress has been made over the last decades in our understanding of neurotransmitter release. The principal mechanism that mediates release was elucidated by Bernhard Katz more some 50 years ago, but the molecular events remained obscure until the components and functions of nerve terminals were studied in recent years (reviewed in SUdhof 2004). The basic mechanisms of release are discussed in the book s first part.
