Additionally it should be noted that S-alkylation of 2-mercapto TPs (such as 170) by benzylhalides gives higher yields and purer products when proceeding as a phase transfer reaction in ether-aqueous sodium hydroxide in the presence of benzyl-trimethylammonium bromide (04MI9). TP 170 and a,a -dichloroacetone react to yield a symmetrical bis-thioether (04MI3). 

Bromoanisole has been derived regiospecifically in 98% yield by bromination of anisoie in dichloromethane/methanoi (5 2) with benzyl trimethylammonium bromide over 2 hours at ambient temperature (ref. 110). 

The concentration of surfactant in the solutions used as mobile phases in ion-pair chromatography should not pass the cmc value. It was known that the solute retention was different when micelles were present in the mobile phase [5-10]. Figure 3.3 illustrates the dramatic retention change observed when the surfactant cmc is passed [11]. The retention factor of benzyl trimethylammonium bromide (BTAB), a cationic solute, is plotted versus the amount of SDS adsorbed on the stationary phase (a cyanopropyl bonded phase).
