Benzothiazyl Disulfide MBTS

MBTS reacts with f-butyl amine to give TBBS and with cyclohexyl amine to give CBS, both of which are extremely important accelerators in rubber vulcanization. [Pg.394]

Accelerators are chemical compounds that iacrease the rate of cure and improve the physical properties of the compound. As a class, they are as important as the vulcanising agent itself Without the accelerator, curing requires hours or even days to achieve acceptable levels. Aldehyde amines, thiocarbamates, thiuram sulfides, guanidines, and thiasoles are all classified as accelerators. By far, the most widely used are the thiazoles, represented by mercaptobenzothiazole (MBT and benzothiazyl disulfide (MBTS). [Pg.499]

Vulcanizing additive Thermoset elastomers must be vulcanized or crosslinked to obtain strong, dimensionally stable resilient materials. To accomplish this purpose, a formidable array of chemicals is employed. Classically, sulfur vulcanizes unsaturated elastomers such as SBR and natural rubber however, because the rate of vulcanization is too slow for industrial applications, chemicals like benzothiazyl disulfide (MBTS) are added. The latter is typical of a class called accelerators. [Pg.545]
