Benzenesulfonyl glycine

Studies of the thermodynamics of formation of complexes of zinc with 2,2 -bipyridine in the presence of halide and thiocyanate ions in DMF has been carried out.205 The zinc complexes of 2,2 -bipyridine with A-(benzenesulfonyl)glycine and A-(toluene- -sulfonyl)glycine were synthesized and infrared data implied a structural analogy with the cadmium complexes. This suggests that the zinc promotes sulfonamide nitrogen deprotonation in the amino acid ligands in the solid state.206...

Benzenesulfonyl chloride added at -10° to a soln. of L-2-(carbo-benzoxyamino) butyric acid in pyridine, after 10 min. glycine p-nitrobenzyl ester p-toluenesulfonate added, stirring continued 30 min. at -10° and 2 hrs. without cooling p-nitrobenzyl N- [l-2- (carbobenzoxyamino) butyryl] -glycinate. 

Quantum chemical modelling of the potential energy surface for the reaction between benzenesulfonyl chloride and glycine solvated with 1—4 water molecules showed that all of the reactions occurred via a complicated route, with varying attack by the nucleophile according to an S 2 mechanism. ...
