Benzene diazonium chloride decomposition

Macrae and Wright (96) demonstrated that visible light irradiation of xanthene dyes (eosin, erythrosin, rhodamine B, or RB) in ethanolic solutions of 4-(N,N-diethylamino)benzene-diazonium chloride (as the zinc chloride double salt) resulted in decomposition of the diazonium salt. Electron transfer from the dye excited state(s) to the diazonium salt was postulated and dye-diazonium salt ion pair formation in the ground state was shown to be important. Similar dyes and diazonium salts were claimed by Cerwonka (97) in a photopolymerization process in which vinyl monomers (vinylpyrrolidone, bis(acrylamide)) were crosslinked by visible light. Initiation occurs by the sequence of reactions in eqs. 40-42 ... [Pg.476]

Acetoxymercuri - benzeneazo - p - cresol/ C H5.N2.C7H5(OH). Hg.OAc.—Mercuric acetate in very dilute acetic acid is boiled under retiux with alcoholic benzeneazo-]>-cresoi for seven hours. It is purified by fractional precipitation from its acetic acid solution by water, and recTVst alii sat ion from glacial acetic acid. It crystallises in red-brown needles, M.pt, 2f>9" to 270 C. with decomposition, and has similar solubilities to tiie above compounds. Its chloride melts with decomposition at 246 to 248 C. Dimroth prepared these compounds from acetoxymereuri-p-cresol and benzene diazonium chloride. ... [Pg.204]

Decomposition of Diazonium Salts.—In illustration of another method of following the course of a reaction, we may study the decomposition of diazonium salts, e.g. benzene diazonium chloride. When this salt is warmed with water, it undergoes decomposition according to the equation—... [Pg.267]

Since the concentration of benzene diazonium chloride in the solution is proportional to the total volume of nitrogen which the solution is capable of yielding, we can calculate the velodty constant of the decomposition by means of the formula—... [Pg.267]

Careful studies of the action of absolute ethyl alcohol on various diazonium salts obtained from aniline have proved that phenetole is the main product, along with a very small quantity of benzene.10 The decomposition of benzenediazonium chloride, for example, results in a 61% yield of phenetole and a 5% yield of benzene.11 The remainder of... [Pg.264]
