Bazzania pompeana

The isolation of -(-)-cuparene (77), and f -(-)-S-cuparenol (78) from the liverwort, Bazzania pompeana, is consistent with the general tendency of this type of plant to produce sesquiterpenoids enantiomeric with those found in higher plants38... [Pg.63]

For the stereoselective total synthesis of bazzanene (12 Scheme 8), a sesquiterpene isolated from the liverwort Bazzania pompeana, the fragmentation of the monoprotected mesylate (10) was used. The mesylate (10) is obtained from the triol (9), an intermediate in the synthesis of gymnomitrane sesquiter-penes. Treatment of (10) with KOBu produces cleanly the expected cyclohexenone (11). [Pg.1045]

Already in 1905 Muller 265) reported the chemical constituents of the oil bodies found in the Hepaticae to be sesquiterpenoids, but the chemical constituents of the Hepaticae were not further investigated until 1965. Fujita et al. 123) reported that the essential oil of Bazzania pompeana was composed of the sesquiterpene hydrocarbons. In 1967, Huneck and Klein 160) reported the isolation of the two enantiomeric sesquiterpenes... [Pg.3]

Matsuo et ai (216) reported isolation of an unusual sesquiterpene hydrocarbon, a-pompene, from Bazzania pompeana, together with P-pompene and proposed structure (151) for a-pompene. The spectral data of a- and P-pompenes were identical with those of a-barbatene (121) and p-barbatene (=gymnomitrene) (122), respectively. That a-pompene is indeed identical with a-barbatene (121), has been shown by X-ray... [Pg.33]
