Batch Wise-Operated Stirred Tank Reactor BSTR

Batch Wise-Operated Stirred Tank Reactor (BSTR) [Pg.30]

The volume V occupied by the reaction mass may change, if the density of the reaction mixture varies during the reaction time as a result of the changing product composition and of physical processes like heating or cooling. [Pg.30]

In contrast to mass, the BSTR can exchange heat through the reactor wall with the surroundings, resulting in a heat balance as  [Pg.30]

The total heat capacity of the reactor is designated as and is assumed to be independent of temperature. The same holds for the average specific heat of the reaction mixture, for which it is additionally assumed that it does not change with the product composition. Equations 2.41 and 2.42 are used to describe the behavior of the reactor during the reaction period and to determine the reactor performance. [Pg.31]

The reactor performance is defined as the amount of product A produced per unit time. In batch-operated reactors, depends on the entire reaction cycle The cycle consists of the reaction time required to reach a desired degree [Pg.31]
