Basidiomycetes culture medium

Figure 5A demonstrates that medium total protein levels began to rise markedly seven days post-inoculation. This appearance coincided with the time-dependent occurrence of PPO within the growth medium (Figure 5B-C) suggesting that at least some of the medium protein was PPO. This suggestion supports the results of Bollag and Leonowicz (1984), Fahraeus and Reinhammer (1967), and Haars et al. (1981) who reported that basidiomycetes can elaborate PPO into their culture media. In this regard, Peterson et al. (1963) and Evans and Palmer (1983) reported that . versicolor can secrete both cellulolytic and ligninolytic enzymes into its culture medium, respectively.
