Based on Carbon Conversion Sturm Test

The ISO 14852 norm also explicitly mentions the possibility and a procedure for biomass determination. The procedure is based on the determination of protein and some assumptions regarding the protein and carbon content of biomass. Determination of the biomass makes it possible to further complete the biodegradation equation (Equation 5.1). [Pg.146]

Other norms similar to ISO 14852 include ASTM D5209-92, EN 14047 and JIS K 6951. [Pg.146]

Besides the Sturm test another much used aquatic, aerobic biodegradation test is ISO 14851 - Determination of the ultimate aerobic biodegradability of plastic materials in an aqueous medium - Method by measuring the oxygen demand in a closed respirometer. [Pg.146]

Other norms similar to ISO 14851 include ASTM D5271-02, EN 14048 and JIS K 6950 the predecessors were OECD 301C and ISO 9408. [Pg.147]

Some other norms for aquatic, aerobic biodegradation tests have also been published, but are not suitable for biodegradable polymers. They have been developed for pure chemical substances and monitor parameters such as dissolved organic carbon, which cannot be used for polymers. Examples are ISO 7827, ISO 10708, ISO 10707, ISO 9888 and ASTM D5864-00. [Pg.147]
