However, light xenon isotopes from 129 to 124 were also over-abundant [61,67,68] in such meteorites and enriched [66] in the tiny host phase although they are not formed in fission. Whether there are at least two anomalous xenon components of different origin, remained controversial for years [69]. Eventually, the fission origin of the anomalous xenon was ruled out [70] because in a host phase containing the excess xenon no enrichment was detected for the adjacent barium isotopes 130 to 138, which are abundant fission products. [Pg.304]

The geochemistry of uranium and thorium has excited considerable interest on accoimt of their strategic importance. Smales determined uranium in rocks by neutron activation followed by isolation of fission product Ba (81). Interference from the fast fission of any thorium present in the sample and from beta-emitting barium isotopes formed by (n,y) reaction is discussed and methods of overcoming the diflSculties are described. The uranium content of two iron meteorites was determined by... [Pg.338]

As regards water analysis, it should also be noted that barium isotopes may be present, in particular barium 140 which has a half-life of 12.8 days and is both a B -and a emitter. [Pg.461]

Rubidium The stable isotopes Rb and Rb were determined by direct ICP-MS measurements. It should be pointed out that the original intention was to isolate the individual alkali and alkaline earth metals by using cation and ion-exchange columns. The radioactive rubidium and barium isotopes had, however, decayed before dissolution of the samples and therefore only stable isotopes of these elements were determined (by ICP-MS), with the exception of °Sr, Cs, and Cs. [Pg.2418]

FIGURE 18.6 Ion ensembles in the fluid phase. MD simulation of ensembles with (a) one species (500 Be+ ions), (b) two species (500 Be+ ions (outer shells) and 100 HD" " ions (inner shells)), and (c) two species (500 Ba ions (outer shells) and 100 barium isotope ions (inner shells)) at different translational temperatures. Particle trajectories integrated over 1 msec are displayed. The view is in the (x-y)-plane. Only a short section along z is shown. The shell structure develops around 200 mK. With lowering of the temperature, the diffusion between and within shells decreases until at temperatures of a few mK and below (not shown) the ions are confined to the immediate neighborhood of particular sites, jittering around them. [Pg.659]
