Balanced ligamentous tension technique

Ligamentous Articular Strain Technique and Balanced Ligamentous Tension Technique... [Pg.103]

Balanced ligamentous tension techniques have usually been associated with a veiy Ught touch, and the use of respiratory cooperation, although ligamentous articular strain techniques usually have more force apphed and the use of respiratory cooperation is not always used. In general terms, the amormt of force ttsed in BLT is approximately 1 to 3 lbs, whereas LAS techniques may be as high as 40 lbs. However, both of them have three components in common ... [Pg.103]

BALANCED LIGAMENTOUS TENSION TECHNIQUE FOR THORACIC VERTEBRAE—SIDEBENDING ROTATION (Example T4 FS, RJ... [Pg.105]

FIG. 19-2 Balanced ligamentous tension technique for the thoracic spine. [Pg.105]

The osteopathic treatment selected for this patient was balanced ligamentous tension technique to the sacrum, inhibition of the psoas muscle, pelvic diaphragm release, and lateral spread of the vaginal walls. [Pg.658]

Osteopathic manipuiation was added to her treatment pian. The muscle hypertonicity was treated with passive myofascial techniques and facilitated positional release. The somatic dysfunctions were treated with muscle energy, facilitated positional release, and balanced ligamentous tension. Rib-raising was used to induce adequate lymphatic drainage and normalize sympathetic tone. [Pg.630]

The sequence of somatic dysfunctions that were treated is significant in that the osteopathic thought process should include an attempt to restore normal function on a systemic basis as well as treating the local area of dysfunctions (treat the whole patient). With edema in all four extremities, lymphatic techniques become more prominent in the treatment plan. The headache symptom associated with increased cervicocran-ial junction muscle tone is indicative of an increase of sympathetic tone, probably secondary to nociceptive (pain) input. Balanced ligamentous tension, counterstrain, and cranial techniques are indirect techniques that can achieve reductions in muscle tone and reduce facilitation in the nervous system restoring a more normal balance. [Pg.651]
