With another writer, select a topic from the list in Exercise 2. One of you should do directed creation for the affirmative, the other for the negative. After both of you have completed your initial writing, each writer should take both sets of raw material and generate a balanced essay that examines both sides of the chosen issue. The balance you need to strike between formality and informality is simply the avoidance of one extreme or another.
