Bai Hu Tang

Representative formula Bai Hu Tang (White Tiger Decoction)... 

For concomitant qi vacuity as evidenced by a large, forceless pulse, add Radix Panacis Ginseng (Ren Shen). This results in Ren Shen Bai Hu Tang (Ginseng White Tiger Decoction). 

For high fever with irritability, loss of consciousness of human affairs, and convulsions, add Cornu Antelopis (Ling Yang Jiao) and Cornu Rhinocerotis (Xi Jiao). This results in Ling Xi Bai Hu Tang (Antelope Rhinoceros White Tiger Decoction). 

For severe fever alternating with mild chills due to simultaneous yang ming/shao yang pattern, add Radix Bupleurum (Chai Hu), Radix Scutellariae Baicalensis (Huang Qin), Radix Trichosanthis Kirlowii (Tian Hua Fen), and Folium Nelumbinis Nuciferae (Xian He Ye). This results in Chai Hu Bai Hu Tang (Bupleurum White Tiger Decoction). 

For yang ming symptoms with counterflow stomach qi, subtract Licorice and Rice and add Rhizoma Pinelliae Tematae (Ban Xia) and Caulis In Taeniis Bambusae (Zhu Ru). This results in Zhen Ni Bai Hu Tang (Suppress Counterflow White Tiger Decoction). 

For swelling of the joints due to wind, damp, heat hi, add Rhizoma Atractylodis (Gang Zhu). This results in Bai Hu Jia Cang Zhu Tang (White Tiger Plus Atractylodis Decoction). 

For high fever and constipation with excessive sweating, thirst, irritability, reddish yellow, scanty, painful urination, and, in severe cases, delirious speech or mania, add Radix Et Rhizoma Rhei (Da Huang). This results in Bai Hu Cheng Qi Tang (White Tiger Order the Qi Decoction). 

For muscle tension and chronic intestinal disorders with chilled extremities, add Ramulus Cinnamomi (Gui Zhi) and Radix Albus Paeoniae Lactiflorae (Bai Shao). This results in Chai Hu Gui Zhi Tang (Bupleurum Cinnamon Decoction).
