Awakening

There was one other event for us to remember. While December 10 is Nobel day in Sweden, December 13 is St. Lucia s day. We were awakened early morning by a knock on our door and were greeted by a singing group of white-clad girls carrying candles and a traditional... [Pg.184]

In 1875, a paper by Winkler awakened interest in the contact process, first patented in 1831. Winkler claimed that successfiil conversion of SO2 to SO could only be achieved with stoichiometric, undiluted ratios of SO2 and O2. Although erroneous, this beUef was widely accepted for more than 20 years and was employed by a number of firms. Meanwhile, other German firms expended a tremendous amount of time and money on research. This culminated in 1901 with Knietsch s lecture before the German Chemical Society (3) revealing some of the investigations carried out by the Badische Anilin-iind-Soda-Fahrik. This revealed the abandonment of Winkler s theory and further described principles necessary for successfiil appHcation of the contact process. [Pg.174]

The book has been written so that it should refresh and awaken the engineer within a reader. The author is certain that this is what readers will feel as they progress through this book. A cursory reading will bring them abreast of the subject and enable them to tackle problems with ease and simplicity. The author s efforts will be defeated if this book falls short of this aim. [Pg.983]

After a few weeks, the new tenant has made a number of observations consistent with the existence of a Thursday garbage collector. Most important, the garbage does disappear every Thursday morning. Second, he receives a bill from the city once a month for municipal services. And there are several supplementary observations that are consistent—often he is awakened at 5 00 a.m. on Thursdays by a loud banging and sounds of a truck. Occasionally the banging is accompanied by gay whistling, sometimes by a dog s bark. [Pg.233]

BzRAs significantly reduce sleep latency and the number and duration of awakenings, resulting in increased total sleep and improved sleep continuity. [Pg.1136]

If the patient is receiving one of these dru for daytime sedation, the nurse assesses die patient s general mental state and level of consciousness. If the patient appears sedated and difficult to awaken, the nurse withholds the drug and contacts the primary health care provider as soon as possible. [Pg.242]

Narcotic or antianxiety drug—to decrease anxiety and apprehension immediately before surgery. The patient who is calm and relaxed can be anesthetized more quickly, usually requires a smaller dose of an induction drug, may require less anesthesia during surgery, and may have a smoother anesthesia recovery period (awakening from anesthesia). [Pg.319]

PROMOTING SLEEP. The nurse notes whetiier coughing keeps die patient awake at night or if die patient has difficulty falling asleep after being awakened by coughing. If sleep is frequentiy interrupted by coughing, die problem is discussed with the primary healtii care provider. [Pg.353]

Like other Lutheran Spirituals such as Arndt, Franckenherg speaks in Pauline terms of the old natural and carnal man, who must be put off and crucified. Antichrist is the Reason of the Old Blind Fleshly Birth. The theological arguments aimed against the Roman Catholics are based on reason and on individual interpretations of the Scriptures. Their exponents have to be awakened to the guidance of the spirit, the Mind of Christ and to Christ himself within you. ... [Pg.103]

This methodology is worthy of wider exploitation in the study of other groups of organofluorine compounds that are of industrial importance as agrochemicals and pharmaceuticals and fluorinated componnds snch as polyfluorinated octanoates and sulfonates that have awakened increasing environmental interest. [Pg.288]
