Atom environment matrix method

Scolecite gave the opportunity to relate the electron density features of Si-O-Si and Si-O-AI bonds to the atomic environment and to the bonding geometry. After the multipolar density refinement against Ag Ka high resolution X-ray diffraction data, a kappa refinement was carried out to derive the atomic net charges in this compound. Several least-squares fit have been tested. The hat matrix method which is presented in this paper, has been particularly efficient in the estimation of reliable atomic net charges in scolecite. [Pg.296]

A wide variety of desorption ionization methods is available [7] desorption chemical ionization (DCI), secondary-ion mass spectrometry (SIMS), fast-atom bombardment (FAB), liquid-SIMS, plasma desorption (PD), matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization (MALDI), and field desorption (FD). Two processes are important in the ionization mechanism, i.e., the formation of ions in the sample matrix prior to desorption, and rapid evaporation prior to ionization, which can be affected by very rapid heating or by sputtering by high-energy photons or particles. In addition, it is assumed that the energy deposited on the sample surface can cause (gas-phase) ionization reactions to occur near the interface of the solid or liquid and the vacuum (the so-called selvedge) or provide preformed ions in the condensed phase with sufficient kinetic energy to leave their environment. [Pg.26]

In this coimection, a cryochemical solid-phase synthesis of metal-polymer systems is of special importance. As a result of such a synthesis, metal clusters and organometallic assemblies formed at low temperatures are buried in a polymer environment, which offers possibilities to stabilize and study these products over a large temperature range. This method was first offered and described in reference 10. The thermal rearrangement of the initial low-temperature system is governed by relaxation processes in polymer matrix. In particular, the aggregation of metal atom clusters to form metal nanocrystals in cryochemically produced metal-polymer systems yields new nanocomposite materials with valuable properties. The study of the mechanism of cluster aggregation, which depends on the characteristics of the polymer matrix, will allow the nanocomposite structure to proceed in the needed direction. Thus, it becomes possible to determine the methods of cryochemical synthesis of metal-polymer materials with predetermined properties. [Pg.38]
