Getting back to the questions raised in Section 11.4.3, we can conclude  

alterations in the secondary structure of proteins are detectable by SFTIRM, where significant changes were observed at pre-clinical time points, and 

the detected changes are partly but not completely due to the conversion of PrP to PrP , suggesting that other proteins high in p-sheet are accummulating too, and
