Devise analyses that will allow you to assess the purity of the dimethyl maleate used and of the dimethyl fumarate produced in the isomerization experiment. 

Decolorize any solutions or containers in which the color of bromine is visible by drop-wise addition of cyclohexene, and then discard the resulting solutions in a container for halogenated organic liquids. Flush the ethanolic filtrate from the recrystallization process down the drain with water.
