As fungicides

S-hydroxyquinoline, oxine, C9H7ON. Light brown needles, m.p. 15-16 C. Forms insoluble complexes with metals. The solubilities of the derivatives vary with pH, etc. and hence oxine is widely used in analysis. Used for estimating Mg, Al, Zn and many other metals. Many oxinates are extracted and the metal is estimated spectrophotometrically. Derivatives, e.g. 2-meIhyl tend to be specific, for, e.g.. Copper derivatives are used as fungicides.

Salts of Ai-substituted dithiocarbamic acid [594-07-0] are used as fungicides (qv) and mbber vulcanization accelerators (see Rubber chemicals). 

Examples of uses (82) of copper compounds are given in Table 4 which hsts the materials of primary industrial importance. The majority of copper compounds are used as fungicides, nutritionals, and algicides. 

Other materials based on EDA have also been suggested as fungicides. The most important of the imida2oline type (162) is 2-heptadecyl-2-imida2oline (163), prepared from EDA and stearic acid [57-11-4]. It is used as the acetate salt for control of apple scab and cherry leaf spot. A 2 1 EDA—copper sulfate complex has been suggested for control of aquatic fungi (164).
