Arylation of Ketones and Aldehydes

The synthesis of a-aryl substituted ketones has been the subject of intense research over the past 35 years. Several old methodologies emerged in the past to perform the synthesis of these useful compounds, including the reaction of an enolate with a derivative of benzyne affording an arene carbon bond at the a-position of a carbonyl compound [7], A number of specific main group aryl reagents have also been reported for the synthesis of a-arylated ketones.
