Arsenic complexes halogen

Elemental arsenic combines with many metals to form arsenides. When heated in the presence of halogens it forms trihaUdes however, pentahaUdes with the exception of AsF (2) and the unstable AsQ. are not readily formed. It reacts with sulfur to form the compounds AS2S2, AsS, As2S, and complex mixtures in various proportions (see Arsenic compounds).

Manoussakis et al,46 have synthesized a series of selenocarbamate six-coordinate complexes of arsenic (20 and Table 8 cf. As—S analogues). By reacting the piperidyl derivative with halogens dissolved in CCU a series of haloselenato carbamate complexes are produced which are probably pentacoordinate (equation 13).

Diverse chemicals have been reported to affect measured endpoints of fish thyroidal status. These chemicals include aromatic hydrocarbons, planar halogenated aromatic hydrocarbons (dioxans, furans, coplanar PCBs), organochlorine, organophosphorus and carbamate pesticides, chlorinated paraffins, cyanide compounds, methyl bromide, phenol, ammonia, metals (aluminum, arsenic, cadmium, lead and mercury), low pH conditions, environmental steroids and a variety of pharmaceutical agents. For the following reasons their modes of action appear complex and are poorly understood16. 

I.r. data for the pyridine, bipyridyl, and terpyridyl complexes of arsenic, antimony, and bismuth(m) halides have been interpreted in terms of halogen bridging in the bipyridyl species, but the terpyridyl compounds are formulated as [SbX2(terpy)]2 SbXj, TAsCUfterpyir ASCI4, and [AsBr2(terpy) ]Br. The bismuth adduct BiCl3,terpy, on the other hand, is covalent.
