Ethyl ester, benzyl arginine

Papain is a proteolytic enzyme from plants. In the HPLC assay developed to measure its activity, the water-soluble N-benzyl-L-arginine ethyl ester (B AEE) is used as the substrate. [Pg.235]

The earhest example of a membrane-enzyme oscillator was presented by Na-parstek, Caplan, and coworkers [52]. This oscillator consists of papain immobilized in a porous collodion membrane that is permeable to water, substrate, and ions. The membrane is cast as a thin film against a pH electrode and is exposed to an alkaline (pH 10) external solution of benzyl arginine ethyl ester (BAEE), which is a substrate... [Pg.196]

The hydrolytic activity of free papain and the immobilized papain was determined using N-benzyl-L-arginine ethyl ester (BAEE) as substrate. After predetermined periods of time, the enzymatic activity was calculated from the initial rate of BAEE hydrolysis by determining KOH consumed within the given period of time. [Pg.323]
