Approach to Debottlenecking

If the object of debottlenecking is to run heavier feeds, multiple test runs may be needed with heavy feed added in stages. 

With this information, the constraints on operation can be identified and the value of addressing them can be evaluated. 

Once the performance of the FCC unit is optimized through the use of new catalyst and operating practices, the unit s profitability can be further improved by installing proven hardware technologies. The purpose of these technology upgrades is to enhance product selectivity 

The unit operating philosophy and its apparent operating limits often dictate unit constraints. For example, limitations on the main column bottoms temperature, the flue gas excess oxygen, and the slide valve delta P often constrain the unit feed rate and/or conversion. Unfortunately, some of these limits may no longer be applicable and should be reexamined. Some of them may have resulted from one bad experience and should not have become part of the operating procedure.
