Application on Competitive Inhibition

When an inhibitor acts to reduce the concentration of the available fee enzyme for the substrate binding, it is said that competitive inhibition takes place. An eminent example is that of succinate dehydrogenase, which is competitively inhibited by malonate to convert succinate to fiimarate within the citric acid cycle (Walsh, 1979 Voet Voet, 1995). 

With fully competitive interaction, the associate netwoik model is particularized from the scheme (1.61) by retaining two channels of alternative enz5mie-substrate reactions only the present discussion follows (Putz et al., 2006a)  

It is worth noting that the present assumed model for competitive inhibition represents an improved version of the commonly accepted one, in which the inhibitor-enzyme complex /of Eq. (1.76) undergoes no further reaction or specific product formation (Voet Voet, 1995).
