Ddcai and Shibayama studied the swelling behavior of a cationic ion exchange resin (sulfonated PS-DVB) and its precursor (PS-DVB resin) in water and toluene as a fimction of crosslink density, and compared it with the structural analysis results obtained from small angle neutron scattering

The effective diffusion coefficient D was about 10 cm /s, which is similar to that of the acrylamide gels. Also, from the fact that the effective diffusion coefficient of the swelling and shrinking of the reverse process is approximately the same, the swelling and shrinking process caused by complex formation can be considered to be a reversible process with the same effective diffusion coefficients [19].
