The high aqueous solubility and largely nonpeptidic character of indinavir may be responsible for the good oral bioavailability, respectable pharmacokinetic profile, and high antiviral activity observed with this compound. Similar to saquinavir and ritonavir, indinavir has been recently approved by the FDA for treatment of AIDS.
