Tenofovir is indicated for use in combination with other antiretroviral agents. Initial studies demonstrated potent HIV-1 suppression in treatment-experienced adults with evidence of viral replication despite ongoing antiretroviral therapy similar benefit in antiretroviral-naive patients has yet to be demonstrated.
