Antimony dichlorotrifluorides

Reaction with iodine forms iodine monochloride, ICl which combines with excess SbCls to form adducts, SbCR 2IC1 and SbCls 31 Cl similarly reaction with chlorine trifluoride, CIF3 gives antimony dichlorotrifluoride, SbCbFs. 

First, antimony trifluoride is treated with chlorine and thus antimony dichlorotrifluoride is formed. This compound catalyzes intramolecular rearrangement of fluorine with the simultaneous allylic shift of the double bond. As in Explanation 99, the tendency is to accumulate fluorine at the same carbon. The product is 1-chloroperfluoropropene Z [756]. 

H,2H-l-Iodononafluoropentane added dropwise with stirring to antimony dichlorotrifluoride, stirred 30 min., then distilled 2H,2H-decafluoropentane. 

Aluminum trichloride and boron trifluoride as additives have a similar effect on the fluorination of (trichloromethyl)benzene by antimony(III) fluoride. With the additives, the reaction starts even at O C but no exchange is observed in the absence of the catalysts.12 The relative exchange reactivity order of the antimony halides is as follows antimony(III) fluoride < anti-mony(III) fluoride + antimony/V) chloride < antimony(V) dichlorotrifluoride, antimony/V) di-bromotrifluoride < antimony/V) fluoride.3...
