Consider at first the trinuclear species (S1-S2-S3), where the spins Si = S3 = 5/2 and S2 = 1/2 are coupled by an isotropic interaction. According to the sign of this interaction, two situations may be encountered let us focus on the antiferromagnetic exchange-coupled trimer where specific manifestations are expected.
